Summer has gone together with its sweet insouciance. Nevertheless, there’s something magical about the fall season that leaves us wondering and admiring the changes in nature’s colours and perfumes. Chardonnay is one of the most popular grape varieties that exist. Its name derives from a town from Mâconnais, in Burgundy, and for a very long time, history and legend have been mixed up.
Today, I would like to talk about the denominazione di origine controllata e garantita (DOCG) “Il Nizza”. The DOCG, in English “controlled designation of origin”, is a quality assurance label for Italian food products, especially wine. Il Nizza is a new appellation, that was established 2 years ago and the first wines have been on the market since July 2016.
Sometimes I like to think that places are like blank pages, that fill themselves with shapes and colors, the more you get to know them. That’s probably the reason why I like telling you about the places in which the wines I happen to try, are born. My enthusiasm grows even more when a wine evokes elements I had already discovered in another place: stories, legends, first and personal impressions.
Lately, a friend of mine who’s acquainted with my taste, made me a surprise. On a late afternoon of a late summer’s day, I received a package, without any distinctive traits but its content could be easily guessed: a bottle of wine.
In front of the beauty of the landscape, you have to close, to reopen and to blink your eyes many times over, because you’re not sure whether you’re still on earth or in paradise. The beautiful green land that extends all around, waits for you to discover it and cherish its memory until your next visit. It’s almost impossible to see these lands without wanting to come back soon.
The olivetree and olive oil have always been symbols of prosperity, well-being and peace. Sometimes, the olive oil is even called “Italian gold”, to indicate not only its high quality but also the privileged relationship we have with our lands, which have existed ever since Ancient Greece.
They could be images of the landscapes of the Provence, or perhaps those of an enchanted island, or they might just be gorgeous images of the sun and the sea of Porquerolles. The fact is that the wine of ourweekly tasting, La Courtade 2012 Rosé the ACP Côtes de Provence, is a concentrate of its territory and magic.
